What does fear look like?

Many times I have talked with clients who are ready to take the next step, whatever that step might be, yet they just can’t seem to motivate themselves to get started. This is because most of us fear the unknown, and the decision to make big changes in our lives is often a leap of faith. As an example, someone may want to make career changes,or they are considering marriage or divorce, writing a book or speaking in public.

I have often noticed that people in these situations deny that they fearful. And I believe they are sincere in that belief, because they don’t recognize the many faces of fear. (more…)

My Personal Journey to Hypnotherapy

In my 17 years as a clinical hypnotherapist it has become apparent that a dysfunctional family is the norm. But when the dysfunction is abusive, damage to a person’s self-esteem, confidence and self-worth will ensue.

A child’s mind is a blank slate. What parents and other authority figures write on that slate through words, actions and examples will form the foundation that child bases his life on. And the slate I am talking about is the subconscious mind. What is chiseled there remains permanent, until a new experience is imprinted over it. (more…)

Old Habits Die Hard

In this second post, I want to start to explore the nature of the subconscious mind, which is the core of our thoughts, feelings and behaviors.

Most people have daily routines, which is to say they have regular patterns of behavior that require little effort to accomplish. Can you imagine waking up every day not having any idea what to do? For example, you know you have to go to work. Should you take a shower first, what should you have for breakfast, what should you wear, how will you get to work, when should you leave? If you had to answer these same questions everyday your life would be extremely stressful. (more…)

Quack like a duck!

In this blog my goal is to explain clinical hypnosis in a way that makes sense to people who are not professionals. There are so many aspects of human behavior which can be helped by hypnotherapy that I thought it would be worthwhile to examine these areas in this series of blog posts.

The first, and most important question people ask me about hypnosis is whether anybody can be hypnotized. This leads to questions about how it works, what it can help, can it make people do crazy things, and so forth. As a certified practitioner of clinical hypnotherapy, I can speak to these questions, drawing on over 17 years of experience working directly with clients. (more…)
